Abandoned Prison From the Period of Stalin’s Rule

To most of us it is well known that Russia’s darkest period was during the rule of communism regime, especially the period of Stalin’s rule.Stalin’s communist regime had zero tolerance for any other political opinion so everyone who opposed and questioned the ideas of communism was declared enemy of the state. Stalin was known by his cruel rule and he was especially cruel against those who didn’t like his ideas. During his regime, there were plenty of prisons which were full of political convicts. One of such prisons was Obdorsk prison which, as many other prisons, was also place where convicts were executed on a daily basis.The prison was built in period between 1937 and 1939. After the end of Stalin’s rule, prison became a mental hospital. Today, those buildings are abandoned but there are still traces of cruel happenings which occurred in that place.

Gundam Odaiba

Well, not quite. To celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the seminal mecha series MS Gundam, an 18-meter/59 feet-tall statue of the iconic RX-78-2 Gundam is being raised at Tokyo’s Odaiba island, specifically in Shiokaze Park.

The 35-ton Gundam is fully lit for dramatic effect, as can be seen in the nighttime pictures, and can swivel its head and project mist or light from 50 different points in its body.[via]

Louise Bourgeois’s 30ft spider, made of bronze, stainless steel and marble, stands outside the Tate Modern. It is one of six built by the 95-year-old acclaimed artist.[via]

Pras was born in 1952 in the south-west of France in a toy shop. After more than 20 years spent as a painter, and also a sculptor of recovered objects, Pras conceived in 1997 an astonishing form of expression, using photography as a basis for the creation of what amounts to a form of installation art. Pras work does not illustrate the painter’s art but the way the eye views an object. In fact, brush and paint are replaced by the object itself.

Hod Lipson is an American robotics engineer. He is the director of Cornell University’s Computational Synthesis Lab (CCSL) at the Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Lipson’s work focuses on evolutionary robotics, design automation, rapid prototyping, artificial life, and creating machines that can demonstrate some aspects of human creativity.

Lipson received his Mechanical Engineering PhD in 1998 from Techion. Before joining the faculty of Cornell in 2001, he was a postdoctoral researcher at Brandeis University’s Computer Science Department and a Lecturer at MIT’s Mechanical Engineering Department.

Abandoned Underground Docks in Japan Made For Military Ships and Submarines

If you have watched the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show you are probably informed about their place of living, the underground. They do live in really huge underground pipes and tunnels where they have found comfortable places for creating a base in there. If you thought that this can only be seen in animated movies, then, you should think again when you see this.Here you can see a huge complex of underground pipes and tunnels which have been designed to house hundreds of Japanese battleships and submarines. The main purpose of this huge dock was to keep the military ships protected from nuclear attack, deep underground.

The construction of this complex has begun in 1952 on the island of Honshu. Those tunnels were mostly built by specially designed robots who were capable to dig them easily.Unfortunately, this place is abandoned today because it was damaged during an underground earthquake.

It is amazing what stemkpunk fans are capable to do these days. I was always attracted with the combination of latest technology and steampunk designs from 19th century.This is one of the coolest and most unique steampunk mods from Steampunkworkshop. The person who made this has used Dell’s 15″ LCD monitor and created a frame and stand for it. He used a typewriter machine as a footer for monitor. He also used an Apple’s Mac Mini to make this computer workstation fully functional and ready to serve to its purpose.

Unusual Truck Designs and Decorations in Asia

I am not sure if those trucks are from China, Korea or Japan but, considering crazy mixture of shiny colors on them, I would put my money on China.

I have to admit that those trucks look like they are driven by girls because of all that fancy decorations you can see on them. I understand that Asian culture is different and probably those colors are pretty cool there. Colors aren’t the only thing which are unusual on those trucks, as you can see from photos, some of them have really unusual shapes and some extraordinary accessories.

The project team went all around the world and now the helmets were displayed at the Andy Warhol Museum in Pennsylvania between February 13^th and May 3^RD. Another showcase of the helmets will be displayed in Los Angeles in June. Thousands of star wars fans are expected to show up at the event. Some of the helmets will be sold off through an auction.
